copper brick
Sand cast copper brick
LIMITED EDITION x 360
ONCE THEY’RE GONE, THEY’RE GONE
PRE-ORDER ONLY
Solid copper brick cast in homage to the restoration of a record-breaking London landmark built using a combination of these two materials.
This brick represents the copper clad roof and brick façade of Smithfield Poultry Market; where the two materials are used to protect what was once the largest concrete shell structure ever built. Constructed in the 1960s, this iconic London market is undergoing a meticulous restoration, set to become the new home of one of the city’s most loved museums.
In the spirit of the refurbished roof, this brick has a raw copper finish, allowing the surface to evolve naturally over time when exposed to the right external conditions.
Cast by Maybrey Reliance, whose origins date back to 1839 at Hatcham Iron Works in south London. Maybrey has since evolved into a 21st-century leader in sustainable metal casting, committed to monitoring emissions and continually lowering their environmental impact.
Each brick comes with a numbered edition certificate and three postcards depicting the casting process, shot by the brilliant Carmel King.
