FACTORY VISIT

In spring 2019 we were given a tour of Forterra’s London Brick factory in Peterborough, where ‘Fletton’ bricks are formed from the local ‘Lower Oxford Clay’ and fired in the Hoffmann Kiln. 
 

The bricks are stacked in an arrangement designed to enable heat transfer when fired in the kiln. Notice the colour change from green clay to a fiery red Fletton brick.
